Alasdair Gold confirms Tottenham Hotspur interest in Pierre Emile-Hojbjerg
According to Football.london, reliable Tottenham Hotspur correspondent Alasdair Gold has confirmed that the club are interested in Southampton skipper Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.
The 24-year-old has gained considerable experience in the Premier League, having joined the Saints four years ago. A central midfielder who can play both in attacking defensive roles, he would be an excellent addition to the Spurs squad. The leadership qualities he brings will be an added bonus.
“He ticks so many boxes for Tottenham. He’s only 24 but he’s got four years of Premier League experience under his belt.”
With just one more year left on his contract, he is not expected to cost a lot. Hojbjerg was subject to interest from Spurs in the January window. However, no deal could be agreed on and he stayed put at St. Mary’s.
According to Gold, the fate of defender Kyle Walker-Peters could be tied into the Danish midfielder. Currently on loan at Southampton, he could be used as a makeweight in any transfer discussions.
Ready to take the next step?
The player himself had admitted that he wants to move to a higher level. Gold has added that playing for Jose Mourinho is something that would appeal to the midfielder.
Having lost one Danish midfielder in January, adding another will be something that appeals to the Spurs faithful. Although there are questions regarding the player’s ability to play at the top level, he has looked at home in the Premier League.
Some point to his inability to make it at Bayern as a 17-year-old. Considering the Germans were one of the top teams at that point in time, just being a part of the conversations shows the player’s ability. A youngster, he also fits the profile of a player who can be a long-term solution.
