Barcelona spurned in their efforts to sign Tottenham star Harry Kane last summer
According to Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo (h/t Daily Mail), Barcelona were rebuffed in their approach for Tottenham Hotspur ace Harry Kane last summer.
The Catalans had identified the English skipper as a replacement for the ageing Luis Suarez. Spurs chairman Daniel Levy, however, was having none of it and rejected it immediately.
According to the report, Barcelona president Josep Bartomeu approached Levy to discuss a transfer. The Catalans have since turned their attention to Inter Milan star Lautaro Martinez and Arsenal star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Kane is one of the best strikers in world football. He has gone from strength to strength since establishing himself in the Spurs first-team in 2014. He has now made 278 appearances for the club while scoring an incredible 181 goals and 30 goals. (h/t Transfermarkt)
His scoring spree has seen him win two back to back Premier League Golden Boots in 2016 and 2017. It was exactly these qualities that saw Barcelona shortlist our ace. A clinical striker in front of goal, his marksmanship is unmatched in English football.
The Catalans have since signed Martin Braithwaite. The transfer raised eyebrows given the player’s standing in the game.

It is understandable that a club of Barcelona’s stature would be interested in a player of Kane’s quality. Thankfully, our chairman held firm and ensured our scoring sensation stayed at the club. The Englishman has played against Barcelona twice and has scored one goal and assisted one.
