Reliable journalist provides an update on Luis Campos to Tottenham Hotspur
According to Julian Laurens of ESPN, Tottenham Hotspur are not interested in hiring Lille sporting director Luis Campos.
The Portuguese, who has been at the French club since 2017, is set to move on. He has requested the termination of his contract with the club after being excluded from a number of key decisions in recent times. (h/t Football.london)
He shares a close relationship with Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho. The duo had earlier worked together at Real Madrid. A move to North London would have been akin to a reunion of friends who excel at their jobs.
Touted as one of the best team builders in the business, he helped put together Monaco’s Ligue 1 winning team in 2017. That team had a number of names that would today be familiar to Premier League fans. Some of them include Fabinho, Kylian Mbappe, Bernardo Silva, Benjamin Mendy, and Tiemouye Bakayoko.
He has continued his fine work at Lille. The likes of Gabriel, Victor Osimhenm, Zeki Celik, and Boubakary Soumare all joined the club after the Portuguese took control. Interestingly all four players have been linked to Tottenham over the past few months.
According to the report, he is likely to return to Monaco. Mourinho and Campos have discussed the possibility of working together in London when the former took over from Mauricio Pochettino. They have, however, not revisited the subject since.
One of the best at what he does, he was also courted by Chelsea and Manchester United. Newcastle United too were keen on securing his services, only for him to reject them.

It is baffling that Tottenham are not interested in securing Campos. With finances at a premium, the ability to identify promising young players would have given us an edge in the current market.
However, it appears that once again, we have allowed a big fish to slip out of our grasp.
