Timothy Castagne opens up on future amidst Tottenham links
According to Belgian media RTBF, via Football Italia (h/t Football.london), Atalanta defender Timothy Castagne has opened up on his future amidst interest from Tottenham Hotspur.
In a boost for Spurs, he has admitted that he would be open to a move to the Premier League. The 24-year-old fullback, who is capable of playing on either flank, would be an excellent addition to the Spurs backline.
The 24-year-old Belgium international has scored twice and recorded two assists in 19 games so far this season. Full-back is a position that Spurs need to strengthen. Jose Mourinho is aware of it and is keen to add to the position in the upcoming window.
Despite his ability, the Belgium international has slipped behind Robin Gosens in the pecking order at Atalanta. He would not face such an issue in North London and could be set for a bigger role.

The Lilywhites failed to replace Kieran Tripper last summer. Danny Rose and Kyle Walker-Peters have both failed to impress and have gone out on loan, while Serge Aurier has proven to be an untrustworthy option.
“I could choose my next destination, I’d lean towards England. I like that Premier League style of football, but I don’t have a preferred club. They are all good.”
Although Castagne admits he has no preferred club in England, Spurs do have an advantage in the scenario. No other top club in the Premier League is in need of reinforcements at full-back like Spurs. Apart from Ben Davies, it is difficult to name a reliable option at Tottenham at this moment in time.

The 24-year-old’s contract at the Gewiss Stadium runs out in the summer of 2021. Atalanta could be open to an offer this summer rather than losing him for a free in a year’s time.

One factor that could work against us is Chelsea’s pursuit of Gosens. Such a transfer will see Castagne rise up the pecking order and damage our chances of signing him.
