Tottenham Hotspur keen on a swap exchange offer for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg
According to Football Insider (h/t Express), Tottenham Hotspur are exploring the feasibility of a swap deal involving Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Kyle Walker-Peters.
The 24-year-old Saints skipper is one of Jose Mourinho’s major transfer targets. With the future of Walker-Peters at Spurs a matter of debate, an exchange could work out very well for us.
Hojbjerg has grown in stature since joining Southampton in 2016. Made the skipper by Ralph Hasenhuttl, he has taken his performances further up a notch.
A dynamic presence in the middle of the park, the 24-year-old is capable of playing in both attacking and defensive positions. The Dane also has considerable experience of playing in England with 129 appearances for the Saints. (h/t Transfermarkt)
A leader on the pitch, his personality will add spine and direction to a Spurs midfield that has at time been rudderless.
Southampton is in a difficult position regarding Hojbjerg. His contract at the club expires in 2021 and the 24-year-old is yet to agree to a new deal. The Saints are keen to hold onto their star and hope to convince him to commit long term.
Walker-Peters was signed by Southampton on loan just last January. The Saints had considered making the move permanent but were unwilling to meet Tottenham’s £15million valuation. His current agreement has no provision to make the deal permanent.
The Saints lost Cedric Soares to Arsenal in January, making an addition at right-back a necessity.

The current financial climate makes splashing out for a player harder than ever before. Swap deals and loans are likely to be the order of the day for a majority of the clubs.
Even if Tottenham agree on a cash-only deal for Hojbjerg, there is no guarantee that the Saints can use that money to bring in replacements. They will be better off taking a player in Walker-Peters instead.
