Totenham Hotspur express interest in Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona
According to Football Insider (h/t Express), Tottenham Hotspur have expressed their interest in Brazilian superstar Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona.
The 27-year-old’s move to the Nou Camp has not gone as expected. With just over two years since he became Barcelona’s record transfer, the Catalans are keen to move him on.
Interest in the player is high from the Premier League with Tottenham, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Everton all interested. Given the current financial climate, a permanent move remains unlikely at this point in time.
Currently on loan at Bayern Munich, he has scored 9 goals and 8 assists in 32 appearances this season. However, he has failed to impress the Germans enough for them to sign him permanently. Although the Bundesliga has now resumed, he is out injured and is unlikely to play again for the Germans.
Despite Barcelona’s boss Quique Setien’s offer of a second chance for Coutinho, the higher-ups are keen to cut their losses on the Brazilian international.
Tottenham came close to signing the player last summer before he moved to Bayern. The Lilywhites remain keen on bringing the player to North London. Given the current financial crisis, a permanent deal is off the cards, with only a loan switch being of any interest.
According to the report, Spurs have already communicated the same to Barcelona and have asked to be kept in the loop.
He is also a proven quantity in England, having shone for years at Liverpool. A match-winner for the Merseysiders, he has made 201 appearances while scoring 54 goals and 45 assists. (h/t Transfermarkt)
A match-winner who can unlock the tightest of defences, the Brazilian will add much creativity to the Spurs midfield. Too often, we have lacked an impetus in attack from our midfielders. Signing Coutinho can change that. As confirmed by the player’s agent, Coutinho too is keen to return to the Premier League.

There is no doubt that the player’s reputation has fallen in recent years. However, he still remains a match-winner and would be a worthy addition to the Spurs squad.
