Kieran Trippier criticizes Tottenham over surgery delay
According to the Mirror, Kieran Trippier has blamed Tottenham Hotspur for his fitness woes at Atletico Madrid.
The Englishman endured an issue filled season in North London before moving to Spain last summer. A loss of fitness and form had seen him lose his spot in the team under Mauricio Pochettino.
Trippier revealed that he was suffering from groin and pelvic problems for months. His requests to have surgery were allegedly put off by the club.
“I struggled for months with my groin and pelvis and I eventually had surgery just after the winter break in Spain in January.”
He eventually underwent surgery during La Liga’s winter break. It forced him to miss the first leg of the Champions League tie against Liverpool. The 29-tear-old admits being frustrated at his former club’s decision not to operate earlier.
“I should have had it last season at Spurs but people didn’t want me to have it then.”
The alleged mismanagement of the injury before surgery and having the operation saw Trippier missed a miss out on seven games for Atletico.
Trippier was charged by the FA earlier this month for breaching betting rules regarding his transfer to Spain. With his Tottenham nightmare behind him, he’s back in training again ahead of the La Liga resumption on June 12.
The Englishman admitted that he has settled in well at Madrid and has started to enjoy his football again.
