Willian has been consistently linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur
According to Sky Sports, Kia Joorabchian, the agent of Chelsea star Willian, has opened up on his future amidst interest from Tottenham Hotspur.
“We have not spoken to Tottenham, or any other club, at the moment.”
The Brazilian midfielder is in the last days of his contract at Chelsea and can leave the club on a free once it expires. Willian is keen on extending his stay at Chelsea, but has baulked at the club’s terms and is ready to make a move. (h/t Metro)
The 31-year-old wants a three-year contract but Chelsea are not willing to offer anything that will exceed two years due to his advanced age. Joorabchian claims the final decision will fall to his client and the club not being able to reach an agreement about the length of a potential new deal.
Although Willian respects Chelsea’s policy, he is keen to finish his career at a high level.
The player shares an excellent relationship with Jose Mourinho. It was the Portuguese who brought the player to England while at Chelsea. A move to North London would be a reunion of sorts for the duo.
Willian’s representative, however, insists that he has not spoken to Spurs yet. He also stated that any transfer talk at this stage will amount to being disrespectful.
“At the moment, he’s a Chelsea player. He has a contract with Chelsea until the season is over, so I think it is disrespectful to talk about him moving to other clubs.”
Although in his 30s, the Brazilian has a couple of seasons in him. Given the financial fallout of the coronavirus pandemic, getting a player of his ability for free should not be taken lightly.
