Tottenham Hotspur priced out of Nicolo Zaniolo transfer
According to the Daily Star, Tottenham Hotspur have dropped their interest in AS Roma star Nicolo Zaniolo after the Italian club placed a £62m price tag on him.
Spurs held talks last summer about a swap deal involving Zaniolo and defender Toby Alderweireld. No deal could be reached and the club moved on to other targets. We have been tracking the 20-year-old since. (h/t Daily Star)
Although there was hope that Roma could be forced to sell due to their financial difficulties, we are not better off to take advantage of it. Both us and Roma are in danger of missing out on the Champions League. The inability to take part in the lucrative competition will be a bitter blow. (h/t Daily Star)
The youngster has seen his reputation rise since moving to the Stadio Olimpico in 2018. Zaniolo has made 60 appearances while scoring 12 goals and assisting five. He is also the youngest Italian to score a brace in the UEFA Champions League. (h/t BBC)
Jose Mourinho is keen to reinforce his squad. However, he will have to rely on mart recruitment rather than splashing the cash to do so. Also the Portuguese is prioritizing a defensive signing over an attacking one. This effectively rules out us spending over the means for the likes of Zaniolo. (h/t Daily Star)
The Italian is one of the best youngsters in the game today. At just 20, he already has the experience of playing in both the Serie A and UEFA Champions League.
The youngster has not featured in a game since injuring his anterior cruciate ligament in January. Hopefully, there are no lingering after-effects due to the setback.
