Tottenham interested in Fiorentina star Gaetano Castrovilli
As per a report from Italian publication TMW (h/t Football.london), Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing a swoop for Fiorentina midfielder Gaetano Castrovilli in the summer transfer window.
Castrovilli, 23, came through the youth ranks at Bari, before making the jump to Fiorentina in 2017. The midfielder spent the last two seasons out on loan at Cremonese, but has established himself as a regular at Fiorentina this term.
So far in 2019/20, the 23-year-old has produced a return of three goals and two assists in 24 Serie A appearances. On the back of his impressive displays, Castrovilli also broke into the Italy national team, making his debut for the Azzurri in November last year.
Castrovilli’s rise to prominence this term has seemingly put the midfielder on the radars of Tottenham, as per the report.
Midfield not a pressing concern, but Castrovilli would be a good fit
Tottenham are in need of reinforcements across the pitch heading into the next season. A new central midfielder though, might not be a pressing concern, considering the options available at Jose Mourinho’s disposal currently.
Having said that, considering that Eric Dier is likely to be moved into a centre-back role henceforth and Tanguy Ndombele’s misifiring debut season, adding another quality operator wouldn’t hurt the club.
Castrovilli, to that end, might prove to be a decent acquisition. At 23, the midfielder has his entire career ahead of him. Furthermore, he brings versatility to the table, as he can play as a No. 8, a No. 10 or even on the left flank.
The 23-year-old has been a potent goal-scoring midfielder across all his clubs, which would help reduce the burden on the likes of Harry Kane and Dele Alli as well.
