Jose Mourinho wants to sign Dean Henderson from Manchester United
According to a report from Mirror (h/t Football.london), Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho is eyeing a raid on former club Manchester United for goalkeeper Dean Henderson.
Henderson, 23, is a product of the Manchester United academy. The Englishman has been out on loan at Sheffield United since last season. Having helped the Blades to a promotion to the Premier League last time out, he has once again been top class in his debut Premier League campaign.
Henderson, so far this season, has managed 10 clean sheets in 27 league outings, establishing himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League. This has put the 23-year-old on the radars of Tottenham boss Mourinho. (h/t Football.london)
It must be noted that it was Mourinho himself that sent Henderson out on loan last season, while he was still the manager of Manchester United. The report adds that the Portuguese has been keeping tags on the young Englishman ever since and is now keen on signing him at Tottenham.
Tottenham’s goalkeeping department is in need of some restructuring. Hugo Lloris has been a brilliant performer for the club for a number of years. But the club captain has shown signs of regression over the course of the 2019/20 season. In addition, neither Paulo Gazzaniga nor Michel Vorm possess enough quality to be the first-choice.
So, identifying and bringing in a new world-class keeper, who can deputise and eventuallly replace Lloris in a year or two is something that the club must look at.
Henderson, to that end, would be a perfect choice. He has proven his credentials in the Premier League and given his age, would be a long-term replacement for Lloris.

Furthermore, with David de Gea the undisputed first-choice at Manchester United he is unlikely to get as many first-team opportunities. Tottenham can use that as a selling point to convince the Englishman to make a switch to North London.
However, with finances tight, bringing in a new custodian might not be a top priority for the club. There are several other positions that need urgent reinforcement before next season.
