Tottenham to submit opening bid or Southampton star Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg
According to a report from the Daily Star, Tottenham Hotspur are set to make an opening offer for Southampton midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.
Hojbjerg has been constantly linked with a transfer to Tottenham in the past few weeks. The 24-year-old has had a solid season for the Saints, having helped them move away from the relegation zone. However, with his contract expiring in an year, speculations over his future have been rife.
Tottenham received encouragement from Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl to go after Hojbjerg, after he admitted that the club will have to sell the midfielder as he is in the final year of his deal.
Following Hasenhuttl’s statements, Southampton chief executive Martin Semmens also went on to hint that the club are very much open to selling the Danish international, provided the right offer comes along.
Tottenham had made their interests known back in January itself, as per the report. At the time the club were quoted a transfer fee of £35m for the Dane. But now, given his contract situation and the overall financial picture of all clubs, there is an expectation that Southampton will lower the demand. (h/t Daily Star)
The report further adds that a transfer to Tottenham very much appeals to Hojbjerg and with Mourinho also intent on securing a new defensive midfielder, the club are poised to launch an offer for him.

Hojbjerg is a proven commodity in the Premier League. Given his age and experience in the top flight, signing him makes perfect sense for us. With all things pointing towards a transfer, let’s hope that Daniel Levy manages to close the deal at the earliest.
