Tottenham to play two friendlies within 24 hours

According to a report from Football.london, Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho has arranged for his team to play two friendlies within 24 hours as the club ramps up preparations for the return of the Premier League.

It was revealed last week that the North Londoners will be involved in a friendly encounter against fellow Premier League side Norwich City. Now, the report states that within 24 hours of the clash against Canaries, the club will face off against Championship side Reading.

Tottenham resume the season with a high-stakes clash against fellow top four hopefuls Manchester United on June 19. Only three days later we will be taking on West Ham United in the London Derby.

Given that there is little margin for error in the final run-in as we hope to finish in the top four, manager Mourinho is keen on ensuring that all his players are in match-fit condition when football resumes. (h/t Football.london)

To that end, the team will now be playing two friendly clashes this week. First-off, we are set to take on Norwich City, before welcoming Championship side Reading a day later. (h/t Football.london)

Considering that players haven’t played in three months, six in the cases of Harry Kane and Moussa Sissoko, the decision to schedule two friendlies is the right move by Mourinho. However, it also does bring in the risk of players picking up injuries even before the resumption of the season.

Tottenham are currently eighth in the Premier League table. We are seven points below London rivals Chelsea in the fourth place. If we are to finish in the top four, Mourinho & co. cannot afford any slip-ups in the remaining nine matches.
