Tottenham starlet Japhet Tanganga to miss Premier League restart with back injury
According to an exclusive report from The Telegraph, Tottenham Hotspur have been handed an injury blow ahead of the Premier League resumption later this week as Japhet Tanganga has been ruled out with a suspected stress fracture in his back.
Tanganga has enjoyed a breakthrough campaign at Tottenham. While he made his first-team debut under Mauricio Pochettino in September last year, the youngster has become a regular in side since Jose Mourinho took over the reins of the club.
The 21-year-old has made 11 first-team appearances this season and had started each of Tottenham’s last three Premier League games. He was also a part of the starting XI against RB Leipzig in the Champions League, which was our last game prior to the suspension of football.
In his short stint at the senior level, Tanganga has made a great impression. Primarily a centre-back, the youngster has been used as a full-back on both right and left sides by Mourinho at times, and he has delivered. So, his injury will come as a blow to the team ahead of the return of the Premier League.
The report states that Tanganga has been able to work on fitness programmes that don’t aggravate his back problem, with there being hope that he features again before the end of the season.
Tanganga joins fellow academy graduate Troy Parrott on the sidelines, with the latter also set to miss the restart after having his appendix removed.
