Dimitar Berbatov insists it is too early to judge Jose Mourinho at Tottenham

Speaking on Betfair (h/t Football.london), former Tottenham Hotpsur striker Dimitar Berbatov has urged fans to hold off on judging manager Jose Mourinho until next season.

Mourinho took over the reins at the club in November last year, following the sacking of fan favourite Mauricio Pochettino after a poor start to the 2019/20 season.

Things began on a positive note for Jose at our club with results improving. However, things have been pretty much downhill since the turn of the year, with injuries to key players halting the progress under the Portuguese.

Mourinho and Tottenham will get a chance for course correction starting on Friday as we resume our Premier League campaign, against Manchester United.

And speaking ahead of the game, Berbatov, who played for both the clubs, has insisted that fans should not be judging Mourinho this early into his tenure at the club. (h/t Football.london)

“Next season if everything is OK and the team comes back and things are normal, then that season will be the decisive one for people who are judging or criticising Mourinho. But now is still a bit too early.

“Mourinho is there and he is doing his own thing. The season is going to finish and when next season starts they will be fully prepared. Then you can judge even more.”

Berbatov’s statements make a lot of sense. This season has been hampered by frequent injury issues to our star players. The club also did not strengthen in the January window either. All this has derailed the positive start that the Portuguese made at the club.

Jose needs time to stamp his authority on the team properly, before a judgement can be made over his tenure. Hopefully, Friday’s game against his former club ushers in a run of good results.
