Noel Whelan tips Jose Mourinho to axe Tottenham star Tanguy Ndombele

In an interview with Football Insider (h/t Express), former Leeds United star Noel Whelan has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho should offload Tanguy Ndombele if the club wants to challenge for the title.

Ndombele, 23 joined Tottenham last summer in a club record deal. However, the Frenchman has struggled to establish himself at the club. Things have gotten only worse for him since the appointment of Mourinho, while injuries haven’t helped his cause either.

Mourinho has not held back from criticising Ndombele in the media, most notably after the former Lyon man’s performance against Burnley back in March. That remains the 23-year-old’s last appearance for Tottenham. He has not taken the field since the resumption of the season.

Following our win against West Ham United last week, reports in France claimed that Ndombele had made up his mind to never play for Mourinho again. While the manager downplayed the claims, Whelan has claimed that Spurs must let go of the 23-year-old this summer, as he is holding them back. (h/t Express)

“You’ve just gone and seen Liverpool win the championship with a tight-knit group. They’re all friends, they all work hard, in the midfield area there’s not one that doesn’t put themselves about.

“Now he’s shown he can’t do that. And with those sort of players in the side, you’re not going to challenge for the Premier League title.”
