Kieran Trippier hits out at Mauricio Pochettino and Daniel Levy
Speaking on The Beautiful Game Podcast (h/t Mirror), former Tottenham Hotspur star Kieran Trippier hit out at former boss Mauricio Pochettino and chairman Daniel Levy over the manner of his exit from the club.
Trippier arrived at Tottenham in 2015 from Burnley and quickly went on to establish himself as one of the best right-backs in England. However, a sub-par season, riddled with injuries in 2018/19, meant that he was shown the exit doors last summer, with the Englishman signing for Atletico Madrid.
Speaking over the manner of his exit, Trippier lashed out at Poch and Levy both, claiming that neither gave him assurances over his future, prompting him to leave. (h/t Mirror)
“If I am part of your plans, then I will stay. He didn’t give me a yes, and he didn’t give me a no in his office. So as a player you think ‘oh right okay, no problem’. Then I went to the chairman and told him the exact same.”
Trippier also insisted that the club had bee offering him to clubs without his knowledge, which furthered his resolve to leave.
The England international’s claims are contrasting from what Pochettino had told media before. The Argentine insisted that there hadn’t been any meetings between him and Trippier before he agreed to join Atletico. (h/t Mirror)
Trippier’s sale last summer left us in a difficult situation at the right-back position. And with the new revelations coming to light, Tottenham fans swarmed to social media to react on Trippier’s claims.

And we replaced him with what? Aurier is nowhere near his standards. He’s been on fire for Atletico.

It’s a question of integrity. Our club should have had a conversation with Kieran Tripper as any good manager of any employee and be open and honest about their plans and his role in it. How can he do anything about it should he never be communicated to about it ??
