Atalanta star Timothy Castagne drops Tottenham transfer hint
In a recent interview to La Derniere Heure (h/t Football.london), Atalanta and Belgium defender Timothy Castagne has claimed that he will not be able to turn down a transfer to Tottenham Hotspur should the club come calling.
Castagne, 24, came through the youth ranks at KRC Genk. He went on to make close to 100 appearances for the club, before signing for Atalanta in 2017. Since moving to Italy, the right-back has grown into an important player for La Dea, making 85 appearances, in which he has contributed with 8 goals and 9 assists.
In the ongoing campaign, the 24-year-old has featured 22 times across all competitions, scoring and assisting two goals apiece.
Castagne’s future at Atalanta has been a subject of speculation for sometime now, as he enters the final year of his contract. Tottenham are one of the few clubs credited with an interest in the seven-time capped Belgian international.
The right-back slot has been a problem for our club this season, following the sale of Kieran Trippier last summer. Serge Aurier is the only senior right-back at Jose Mourinho’s disposal currently. And while the Ivorian has impressed since the resumption of the season, he has been a liability at the back for most of the term.
Bringing in another quality full-back to compete with Aurier would work very well for the club. And Castagne, when made aware of Tottenham’s interest in him, has hinted that he would be open to a move. (h/t Football.london)
“You have to be honest with yourself. When a team like PSG or Tottenham come knocking on your door, you can’t say no.”

Castagne, given his age and versatility, Castagne can be a valuable addition to Tottenham. And with the Belgian himself open to a transfer, it will be interesting to see if the club do launch an attempt to land him.
