Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho eyeing swoop for Real Madrid star Lucas Vazquez
According to a report from the Mirror (h/t Express), Tottenham Hotspur boss Jose Mourinho is eyeing a raid on former club Real Madrid for Spanish winger Lucas Vazquez.
Vazquez has been with Real Madrid since 2007, having come through the club’s youth setup. After a loan spell away at Espanyol in 2014/15, the Spaniard became a first-team regular at Santiago Bernabeu. He has since racked up 201 appearances, scoring 24 goals and assisting 46 more.
The 28-year-old Vazquez is entering the final year of his contract with Real Madrid. And while he is rated highly by manager Zinedine Zidane, the club are willing to offload him at the end of the season, given the sheer amount of options available for the wide attacking roles. (h/t Express)
This development seemingly has alerted Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho, who is now reportedly ready to launch a move for Vazquez.
It has been a difficult season for us so far following the heights of the 2018/19 campaign. However, there have been some improvements since Mourinho took over in November last year. Results did suffer earlier this year due to the sheer number of injuries to our players.
But since the resumption of the season, we have picked up four points from two matches, keeping our hopes for a top four finish alive. However, it goes without saying that the club is in serious need of recruitment over the summer in order to push for the title.
Vazquez would be a good addition to the side. His arrival would add more depth in the wide areas, while his proven quality and winning pedigree will only be an asset.
The 28-year-old would be available for a fee of £22.5m. However, the report adds that Tottenham could sign for a lesser figure of £16m, plus performance-related bonuses.
