Jose Mourinho conident of signing Kurt Zouma from Chelsea
According to a report from the Express, Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho is increasingly confident of raiding former club Chelsea for the signing of Kurt Zouma in a £25m deal.
Zouma joined Chelsea in 2014, when Mourinho was in charge at the club. It was the Portuguese who handed him his first-team debut at Stamford Bridge. However, injuries hampered his development, which meant he ended up losing his place in the starting lineup.
As a result, Zouma spent the last two seasons out on loan at Stoke City and Everton respectively, particularly impressing during his spell at Goodison Park.
Back at Chelsea ahead of the 2019/20 term, the Frenchman started the season as the first-choice, but eventually lost his place. However, he has started the Blues’ last two matches against Watford and Crystal Palace.
Even then, Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is eyeing defensive reinforcements in the summer and would be willing to offload Zouma as a result. This has led to interest in his services mainly from Everton and Chelsea. (h/t Express)
It is a well-known fact that our defence has been all over the place for majority of the 2019/20 season. Things haven’t improved a great deal since Jose Mourinho took over the reins and hence, the Portuguese is targeting defensive reinforcements this summer. Zouma, to that end, has emerged as a target for the club. (h/t Express)

Chelsea are likely to demand a transfer fee of £25m for Zouma. The Frenchman still has his best years ahead of him and has experience in the Premier League.
However, he has been inconsistent and error-prone at times as well. So, he might not end up being a major upgrade on our current options. But, Mourinho is an admirer of the defender, so the club may go after him in the summer.
