Tottenham make enquiry for Lille ace Jonathan Ikone
According to a report from TF1 (h/t Football.london), Tottenham Hotspur have made an enquiry over the potential availability of Lille’s attacking midfielder Jonathan Ikone.
The 22-year-old Ikone came through the youth ranks at PSG and had multiple loan spells away at Montpellier before making the jump to Lille on a permanent basis in 2018. Since joining the club, the attacking midfielder has grown into a key player, accumulating 77 appearances, in which he has seven goals and seventeen assists.
Ikone enjoyed a fairly productive 2019/20 campaign, finishing with four goals and seven assists from 36 appearances in all competitions, helping Lille to a fourth place finish in the table. Primarily a central attacking midfielder, the 22-year-old can play on either flanks as well.
Ikone is contracted with Lille till the summer of 2023. However, the club are open to offloading him should a suitable offer come along. And Tottenham have now made an enquiry for the Frenchman. (h/t Football.london)
It goes without saying that the club is need of recruitment, given how poor we have been this term. The defence needs to be strengthened, while a new centre-forward should also be a top priority for Jose Mourinho & co.
However, bringing in another attacking midfielder who can provide creativity and goals would serve the club well. Having lost Christian Eriksen in January, the team has missed a creative presence in the side.

Plus Dele Alli’s injury problems and Giovani Lo Celso’s lack of goals mean we could certainly do with someone of Ikone’s quality.
Tottenham are not the only club to have made an enquiry for the the Frenchman though. Newcastle United are also interested in the 22-year-old. (h/t Football.london)
