Eric Dier seeks to double his wages at Tottenham Hotspur
According to the Daily Mail, Tottenham Hotspur star Eric Dier has stunned the club with his demands to receive a minimum doubling of his wages.
The 26-year-old is in the final year of his contract and can leave for a free next summer. He has however built up an excellent rapport with Jose Mourinho and is keen to stay put.
Currently earning £60,000-a-week, his demands have left club chairman Daniel Levy shocked. Known for being a penny-pincher, Levy will not have been happy by the player’s demands.
Dier seeks to earn along the lines of some of the best-paid players at the club. According to the report, Tottenham believes such a demand has no place in the post-COVID market.
Mourinho, too, is key to keep hold of the midfielder. Dier endured a difficult start to the season but has since seen his form pick up. The Englishman has thrived being shifted into defence and can provide an excellent option given our defensive troubles.
We do not feel Dier’s demands are too excessive. He has been one of our better players in a disappointing season and should be compensated for what he is worth. Doubling his salary will set the club back just over a further £3m.
Given that he earns a fraction of what Tanguy Ndombele does we fear he has a point.Especially so, when he earns the same as outcast Danny Rose.
It is difficult to see us bring in a replacement for cheaper, especially at Dier’s quality. The 26-year-old’s versatility, that allows him to play both in defence and midfield, is a major asset that has to be taken into account.
With Jan Vertonghen set to leave and Toby Alderweireld not getting any younger, Spurs are in need of a massive defensive overhaul. In Dier, we already have one part of the jigsaw at the club. It will be foolish to no take that into account.

Dier was charged for his conduct post the Norwich City clash by the FA. He received a four-match ban and was fined £40,000.
This will see Dier return only for the final game of the season. If anything it gives the management a sneak-peek into life without the Englishman.
