Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg agrees personal terms with Everton
According to a report from the Daily Echo, Tottenham target Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has agreed personal terms with Everton, after Southampton accepted an offer of £25m from the Toffees for the midfielder.
Hojbjerg has been heavily linked with a switch to Tottenham for quite some time now. The Danish international was reported to be the top transfer target for Spurs’ manager Jose Mourinho. It was even claimed that the midfielder had his heart set on a switch to Tottenham as well. (h/t Daily Echo)
However, Everton seemingly have swooped in to beat us to the signing of the former Bayern Munich. After two failed bids for Hojbjerg, the Merseyside outfit came back with a third offer of £25m, which was accepted by Southampton.
The report also adds that while Tottenham were the midfielder’s preferred destination, the club did not come up with an offer anywhere near Everton’s, which is why the Saints are going through with the deal with Southampton.
It further claims that Hojbjerg already visited the Toffees’ training ground on Tuesday and has been able to agree personal terms on a contract.
Given the lack of a proper defensive midfielder in our squad, signing the 24-year-old Hojbjerg would have been a great move for the club. However, it seems like our chance to land the Denmark international has now passed by.
