Tottenham face AC Milan, Bayer Leverkusen competition for Emerson

According to a report from Calciomercato (h/t Football.london), Tottenham Hotspur will have to battle Serie A giants AC Milan and Bundesliga outfit Bayer Leverkusen for the signing of Barcelona starlet Emerson.

The 21-year-old Emerson signed for Barcelona in the summer of 2019 and was immediately loaned out to Real Betis, where he has thrived. The Brazilian right-back ended the 2019/20 campaign with an impressive return of three goals and six assists from 33 La Liga outings.

Emerson has another year left on his loan deal with Real Betis before he returns to Barcelona. However, this hasn’t stopped other clubs from registering an interest in the defender. Tottenham and Bayer Leverkusen are interested in securing his services and now AC Milan, too, have joined the race. (h/t Football.london)

The right-back slot has been a problematic one for us this season, given that the club sold Kieran Trippier without bringing in a replacement. Then, sending Kyle Walker-Peters out on loan in January left Serge Aurier as the only senior right-back in the squad.

Given how inconsistent Aurier has been, it goes without saying that the club must prioritise bringing in a new right-sided full-back in the summer. Emerson, to that end, would be a handy addition. Young and full of potential, the Brazilian has displayed his qualities during his stint with Betis.

The youngster still has a year left on his current loan deal with betis. But, Barcelona are now considering cutting that agreement short as they look to cash in on him amid interest from several clubs, including Tottenham. (h/t Football.london)

It will be interesting to see if the club does launch an offer for the Brazilian. But given the intense competition, we will have to act swiftly or risk losing him.
