Tottenham stars pay tribute to Jan Vertonghen and Michel Vorm
Jan Vertonghen and Michel Vorm have left Tottenham after the 2019/20 campaign ended on Sunday evening, the club has confirmed on the official website.
Both Vertonghen and Vorm’s contracts were up at the end of June. But the duo had agreed to short-term extensions to see out the elongated 2019/20 season.
Spurs’ campaign came to an end with a 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park, which ensured the club’s qualification to the UEFA Europa League for next season. And with the curtains falling on the campaign, it is now confirmed that Vertonghen and Vorm’s time with the team has come to an end.
Vertonghen joined Spurs from Dutch giants Ajax back in 2012. During his eight years at the club, the Belgian international has grown into one of the best defenders in the league, even though his form dipped this season.
Vorm, on the other hand, arrived at the club from Swansea City in 2014 and had played backup to Hugo Lloris for the entirety of his spell, before leaving last summer when his deal ran out. However, a serious injury to Lloris led to the club bringing him back for another year in October.
A number of Spurs’ stars took to social media to pay emotional tributes to Vertonghen and Vorm following their exit.
