Tottenham complete the signing of Alfie Devine from Wigan Athletic
Tottenham Hotspur have completed the signing of 15-year-old midfield sensation Alfie Devine from Wigan Athletic, the Latics have confirmed on their official website.
The 15-year-old Devine was released from the Liverpool youth academy last year. Following that, he joined the Wigan youth setup.
In his first year with the club, the young midfielder made rapid strides, starring for them in the FA Youth Cup with the U-18 team. He made a substitute appearance in Wigan’s 2-0 win over Spurs’ U-18 side in the FA Youth Cup. His form prompted the club to fast-track Devine into the U-23 side.
A central midfielder by trade, Devine can also play in a more defensive capacity, in the No. 6 role. The 15-year-old broke into the England U-16 national team towards the end of last year as well. He featured in a couple of friendlies against Spain and Japan.
Earlier this month, it emerged that Tottenham were in talks with Wigan Athletic to sign the midfielder in a deal worth £500,000.
And now, the Latics have officially confirmed that the youngster has signed for the North London club on a permanent basis. The statement issued by them read:
“Wigan Athletic midfielder Alfie Devine has completed a permanent transfer for Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur. We wish Alfie well in his future career.”

Given the potential that he has shown, signing Devine could prove to be a great coup for the club. The 15-year-old is still far from being ready for the first-team, but given how rapidly he rose through the ranks at Wigan, it might not be too long before he starts to knock on the senior team doors.
