Jose Mourinho has a dig at Manchester United and Bruno Fernandes
Speaking to Portuguese newspaper Record (h/t Express), Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho has aimed a sly dig at former employers Manchester United and their star playmaker Bruno Fernandes
The 25-year-old Fernandes joined United in the January transfer window from Portuguese club Sporting CP. This, after Tottenham had failed with an attempt to land him last summer.
The attacking midfielder has made a huge impact at Old Trafford, almost single-handedly dragging them to a third-place finish in the Premier League. However, they have had a number of favourable penalty decisions go their way over the course of the campaign.
Indeed, Manchester United won 14 penalties in the 2019/20 Premier League, most by a single team in a single season. Fernandes was their anointed penalty-taker since joining the club and converted each of his spot-kicks.
On Wednesday, Mourinho landed in Lisbon and was asked about the impact that his compatriot has had at his former club. And the Portuguese couldn’t help but fire a shot at his compatriot and United. (h/t Express)
“Bruno came in, he was fit, played very well and improved the United team. He also proved to be a great penalty taker, one of the best in the world, because he had about 20 to score!”
