Tottenham closing in on Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg signing
According to a report from Sky Sports, Tottenham Hotspur could finally be set to land their man as the transfer of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg from Southampton is edging closer.
The 24-year-old Danish international has been with Southampton for four years now, having signed from Bayern Munich back in 2014. During his time at the club, he has grown into a pivotal player, so much so that he was handed the captain’s armband.
However, he was stripped of the captaincy last month after refusing to sign a new contract with the Saints. With his current deal expiring in less than a year, Hojbjerg is being heavily linked with an exit. And Tottenham have emerged as his most ardent suitors.
Spurs’ boss Jose Mourinho has identified the Dane as his primary transfer target heading into the transfer window. So much so that he is willing to sanction the sale of four players in order to fund a move for the former Southampton skipper.
However, of late, it emerged that Everton had stolen a march on Tottenham in the race to sign the midfielder. The Toffees were reported to have an offer accepted for Hojbjerg, while it was also claimed that the 24-year-old had agreed terms on a contract as well.
However, as per Sky Sports, Tottenham are the front-runners to land the midfielder. Spurs are said to have offered £15m for the midfielder. That is £10m short of the Saints’ £25m valuation for their ex-captain.
But Tottenham are also negotiating a permanent deal for right-back Kyle Walker-Peters to move the other way. The 23-year-old spent the second half of the campaign on loan at St. Mary’s and made quite the impression post lockdown. (h/t Sky Sports)

Southampton have stressed on the fact that they want to treat the two deals separately. However, the player is keen on joining Tottenham, which may force them to compromise on the stance. Hopefully, Daniel Levy & co. are able to close the deal on this one at the earliest possible.
