Tottenham plan to beat Chelsea to Dean Henderson signing
According to a report from Mundo Deportivo (h/t Express), Tottenham Hotspur are aiming to hijack Chelsea’s attempt to sign Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson in the summer transfer window.
The 23-year-old Henderson is a product of the Manchester United academy. However, he is yet to make a senior appearance for the Red Devils. In spite of that, the Englishman has carved out quite the reputation for himself.
Having impressed on loan at Shrewsbury Town in 2017/18, Henderson helped Sheffield United earn promotion to the Premier League in the following season. Having spent another year on loan with the Blades, the goalkeeper was one of their best players as they achieved a top-ten finish in the top flight.
Now returning to Manchester United with the season over, Henderson’s future remains unclear given that David de Gea is the first-choice goalkeeper at Old Trafford. This had led to interest in the Englishman from Chelsea, who are reportedly lining up a move for him as a replacement for Kepa Arrizabalaga. (h/t Express)
However, Tottenham, too, are interested in the 23-year-old and are hoping to beat the Blues to Henderson’s transfer. Spurs’ boss Jose Mourinho will have seen Henderson from close quarters during his time at Manchester United.
Hugo Lloris is not getting any younger, while Paulo Gazzaniga has hardly impressed. So, it makes sense that the club would have their eye on a promising young goalkeeper with a bright future.

It was only recently reported that the club are planning to hand Lloris a new contract. That will be a good move, given his experience and leadership. But, signing Henderson would be a step in the right direction as we build for the future.
However, with Chelsea interested and Sheffield United also keen on taking him on loan for another season, it remains to be seen if the club is able to land him.
