Tottenham offered a shot at signing Troy Deeney
According to a report from the Daily Mail, Tottenham Hotspur have been offered a chance to sign Troy Deeney from EFL Championship outfit Watford this summer.
The Hornets were relegated from the Premier League last month and are now looking at cost-cutting measures ahead of their campaign in the second division. And Deeney, who is one of their top earners, is likely to be allowed to leave in the ongoing transfer window. (h/t Daily Mail)
The 32-year-old came through the youth ranks at Walsall and spent time at Halesowen (loan), before signing for Watford in 2010. Till date, he has featured 398 times for the Hornets, scoring 139 goals and setting up 59 more.
One of their top performers year after year, Deeney battled with injuries during the 2019/20 campaign, but still managed to contribute with 10 goals and 2 assists in 27 Premier League outings.
With Deeney’s contract expiring in less than a year, the club are open to the possibility of letting him leave this summer. And Tottenham have been offered a chance to land the seasoned striker. (h/t Daily Mail)
Tottenham are in need of a backup option to star striker Harry Kane. The lack of a cover to the England captain hurt the team during the second half of the 2019/20 campaign. With the club letting Troy Parrott sign for Millwall on loan last week, there is absolutely no cover for our star attacker.

Deeney, thus, has emerged as a potential target for the club. While he is well into his thirties, Deeney has shown he can chip in with important goals on a regular basis. And the fact that he is in the final year of his deal means he would be available at a knock-down price. He certainly represents an intriguing option, and it remains to be seen if the club make a move for the 32-year-old.
