Watford want £40m for Ismaila Sarr amid Tottenham, Liverpool interest

According to a report from the Evening Standard, Watford have set a price tag of £40m for Senegalese international Ismaila Sarr, who is courting a lot of interest from the Premier League.

Premier League champions have been touted as the most ardent suitors of the 22-year-old winger. Recently, the Mirror reported that Tottenham Hotspur too are interested in signing him. And now, Watford have slapped a valuation of £40m on their prized asset.

Sarr signed for Watford only last summer from French club Stade Rennes. It was a season to forget for the Hornets, as the ended up getting relegated. However, the 22-year-old was one of the few bright spots for the club, as he managed a return of six goals and assists each in 30 matches across all competitions.

Tottenham have a number of options for the wide roles as things stand. However, both Erik Lamela and Lucas Moura have been well below their best. And with question marks over the future of the former, bringing in a new winger wouldn’t be the worst idea for the club.

Sarr, to that end, would represent a handy signing. The 22-year-old has demonstrated that he can cut it out at this level. With age on his side, he is bound to get better with experience.

With finances hit hard because of the pandemic, we will need to be smart with our signings this summer. And the £40m valuation for Sarr might seem a touch excessive. More so, considering that there are more pressing concerns in the roster for Jose Mourinho.
