Real Madrid ready to sell Gareth Bale for just €17m

According to a report from Spanish publication Sport, Real Madrid are prepared to offload former Tottenham star Gareth Bale for just €17m this summer amidst a potential squad overhaul.

Bale burst onto the scenes as a supremely gifted youngster at Tottenham and grew into one of the most sought-after stars in Europe. The Welsh wing-wizard ended up sealing a mega-money transfer to Real Madrid in the summer of 2013, after having made 203 appearances, in which he scored 56 goals and assisted 58 more.

Bale’s time at Real Madrid has been very successful, but equally controversial. While he has won a bucket load of trophies during his time in Spain, the Welsh international has never really been able to endear himself to the Madridista supporters.

Plus, he has completely fallen out of favour under current manager Zinedine Zidane. As a result, Bale featured in just 20 matches across all competitions in the 2019/20 season, scoring three goals. All this has led to intense speculations over his future at the club.

Reports of a potential return to Tottenham have been doing the rounds for quite some time now. Recently, Bale’s former Spurs teammate Andros Townsend talked up a comeback to North London for the Welshman as well.

And now, Real Madrid are considering selling him for as little as €17m, with Zidane planning a major squad overhaul this summer.

Bale returning to Tottenham would be great. However, the finances of such a deal would have dithered the club from attempting to re-sign him. However, for a transfer fee of just €17m, if it is indeed true, the club should definitely consider bringing him back. Although, sorting out his mammoth wages would be another hurdle.
