Paul Robinson tips Paulo Gazzaniga to leave Tottenham
Speaking to Football Insider (h/t Football.london), former Tottenham star Paul Robinson has tipped goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga to leave the club, following the arrival of Joe Hart.
Tottenham confirmed the signing of Hart on a free transfer on Tuesday. The 33-year-old former England international has signed a two-year contract with the club. He is expected to provide cover for first-choice goalie and captain Hugo Lloris.
We lost Michel Vorm last month after his contract expired. So, it makes sense that the club went out and brought in a seasoned campaigner with proven track record to add depth to the goalkeeping department.
However, according to Robinson, this could end up forcing our current second-choice goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga out of the squad this summer. (h/t Football.london)
“He [Hart] has accepted that new role as a number two, like he did at Burnley, so he’s not going to expect to play, although I do think he’ll come in and get some games. His experience around the dressing room and on the training ground will be vital. I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw Gazzaniga moving on.”
Gazzaniga has been with Tottenham since three years, having signed from Southampton. He has largely played second-fiddle to Lloris during his time at the club.
The 28-year-old Argentine did get an elongated run in the first-team this past season when Lloris was out with an elbow injury. However, he failed to make the most of it, ending the campaign with just five clean sheets and 33 goals conceded from 25 matches in all competitions.

Gazzaniga still has two years left on his current contract with Tottenham. It remains to be seen if Hart’s arrival does have a bearing on his future at the club.
