Tottenham offered Atletico Madrid’s Diego Costa
According to an exclusive from Daily Star, Tottenham Hotspur have been offered the chance to sign Atletico Madrid centre-forward Diego Costa this summer.
The 31-year-old Costa worked with our manager Jose Mourinho at Chelsea. Having arrived from Atletico in 2013, he went on to win the Premier League under Jose, and added another league title under Antonio Conte in 2017.
However, after falling out with the Italian, Costa returned to Atletico Madrid in January 2018 a deal worth £57m. Since moving back to Spain, the veteran striker hasn’t been able to make quite the desired impact, with injuries and fitness problems holding him back.
Indeed, Costa has featured just 74 times in the two-and-a-half years since he returned to Atleti. In the process, he has found the back of the net just 17 times. (h/t Transfermarkt)
Costa endured an injury-riddled 2019/20 campaign, which restricted him to just 14 La Liga starts. In 30 appearances in all competitions, the Spaniard finished with just five goals and five assists. (h/t Transfermarkt)
As a result, Atletico Madrid are now looking to offload the striker this summer, before his contract expires in less than a year. And Tottenham have been offered a chance to sign the 31-year-old. (h/t Daily Star)
The report does go on to add that Spurs have a couple of concerns over signing Costa. The first concern is that the striker will be turning 32 in just over a month. The second one is with regard to his fitness issues, that have troubled him since returning to Atletico.

Tottenham are in need of a new striker as there is no backup for star forward Harry Kane at Mourinho’s disposal currently.
And while Costa, who is on £270,000-a-week wages at Atletico, is a proven commodity and a Jose Mourinho-trusted player, he is seemingly past his prime. And his injury issues would make him an unreliable option for us. Thus, we would be better of looking at alternatives.
