Tottenham begin talks with Hugo Lloris over new contract
According to Football Insider (h/t Football.london), Tottenham Hotspur have held preliminary talks with club captain and first-choice goalkeeper Hugo Lloris over a new contract.
The 33-year-old has been with Tottenham for over eight years now, having signed back in 2012 from Olympique Lyon. Till date, he has made 325 appearances for the club, keeping 112 clean sheets in the process.
Lloris had a difficult start to the 2019/20 campaign, with an elbow injury ruling him out for an extended period. Post his return, the 2018 World Cup winner struggled to perform at his best.
However, the Frenchman rediscovered his mojo post-lockdown, playing a key role as we finished in the top six in the Premier League. The veteral goalkeeper finished the season with six clean sheets from 21 Premier League appearances, conceding 21 goals.
Lloris still has two years left on his current £100,000-a-week contract with Tottenham Hotspur. And while he will soon be turning 34, the club are planning to hand him a new contract. (h/t Football.london)
As per the report, the club has opened talks with the Frenchman over a new deal, which would see him spend the rest of his career at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Lloris may be entering the final phase of his career, but still remains a top-class goalkeeper, as we saw in the final stages of the 2019/20 season.
His experience and leadership will be critical for us to climb back to where we belong. And, while we will eventually have to replace him in the starting XI, handing him a contract to see out his career would mean he continues to be an important presence in the dressing room.
