Tottenham considering swoop for Watford midfielder Will Hughes
According to the Mirror, Tottenham Hotspur are considering a surprise swoop for Watford midfielder Will Hughes in the current transfer window.
The 25-year-old Hughes came through the youth ranks at Derby County and made quite the name in the lower division with the Rams. After 189 appearances, in which he scored 12 goals and set up 18 more, the Englishman signed for Watford in the summer of 2017.
Since joining the Hornets, Hughes has turned out 87 times for the club, finding the back of the net on six occasions, while registering 10 assists as well. (h/t Transfermarkt)
Hughes was a regular presence in the starting XI for Watford this season, but couldn’t help them stave off relegation to the Championship. However, he has now emerged as a transfer target for Jose Mourinho and Tottenham. (h/t Mirror)
Tottenham have already strengthened the midfield department with the summer acquisition of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg from Southampton. However, there are significant question marks over the future of club’s record signing Tanguy Ndombele.
So it wouldn’t be the worst idea for the club to bring in another central midfielder this summer. And Hughes would be a handy addition, given his Premier League appearance coupled with the versatility he offers. Plus, he would also add to our homegrown quota of player as well.

However, any move for the £13m-rated Watford midfielder will have to be funded by the sales of players. And as a result, Jose Mourinho is willing to offload Juan Foyth, Danny Rose, Serge Aurier as well as backup goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga. (h/t Mirror)
Hughes might not be the biggest star, but has the ability to add value to our squad with his versatile nature. Given the grueling season ahead of us, squad depth will be very much important. And, signing Hughes would be a boost in that regard.
