Tottenham knocked back in pursuit of Torino striker Andrea Belotti
According to reputed Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Tottenham Hotspur made an approach for Torino striker Andrea Belotti, which has been knocked back by the Serie A outfit.
It is no secret that Tottenham are in dire need of a new striker. The North Londoners cannot go an entire season with Harry Kane as the only natural centre-forward in the ranks.
A cramped domestic schedule, coupled with Europa League commitments mean the England captain cannot play every match and carry the goal-scoring responsibilities all by himself. Thus, bringing in a new striker before the window closes is of paramount importance for Jose Mourinho & co.
A number of names have been linked with a move to the Tottenham Hotspur stadium, but a signing is yet to be made. And the latest target, for Spurs, as per Di Marzio, is Torino captain Andrea Belotti.
The 26-year-old Belotti spent the majority of his youth career at UC AlbinoLeffe. He moved to Palermo in 2013, initially on loan, before making the move permanent a year later. During his time at the club, the Italian has racked up 192 appearances, scoring 92 goals and assisting 19 more.
A prolific and a consistent goalscorer, Torino is also the captain of the Torino team. He enjoyed another fruitful season in 2019/20, banging in 22 goals in 44 matches across all competitions. Signing him would have added some heavy firepower to the Tottenham frontline.
To that end, the club made an approach to Torino exploring the possibility of signing him on a season-long loan with an option to make the transfer permanent for €50m next summer. However, Torino knocked back the offer, and have told Spurs that they will only entertain offers for an outright sale. (h/t Gianluca Di Marzio)

Signing Belotti would be a coup for Tottenham. The 26-year-old has been a consistent performer year after year in Serie A and has his peak years in front of him. However, it remains to be seen if we return with a different offer for the Italian international.
