Tottenham close to agreeing deal for Sergio Reguilon
According to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, Tottenham Hotspur are closing in on the transfer of Real Madrid left-back Sergio Reguilon on a permanent deal.
The 23-year-old Spaniard came through the youth ranks at Real Madrid and made his senior debut for the team in 2018/19. However, his game time took a beating once Zinedine Zidane returned as manager last year. And following the signing of Ferland Mendy last summer, he was loaned out to Sevilla for the 2019/20 campaign.
During his time at Sevilla, Reguilon thrived brilliantly, as helped them to a top four finish in La Liga, while essaying an important role in their UEFA Europa League success as well.
However, with his situation at Real Madrid not changing, they were keen on offloading him, with Manchester United and Tottenham reportedly interested.
And, it seems like Jose Mourinho has got one over his former employers, as David Ornstein is claiming that Tottenham are close to an agreement with Real Madrid for Reguilon’s transfer. (h/t The Athletic)
As things stand, Ben Davies is the first-choice left-back at Tottenham. But with the Welshman not quite impressing of late, adding another emerging, energetic talent as Reguilon would be a smart move. This would also allow the manager to use Ryan Sessegnon in a more advanced role, while also covering for Danny Rose’s potential exit.

Reguilon was named the best left-back in La Liga for the 2019/20 campaign. His potential arrival would certainly be quite the coup for us. With the deal now close to completion, the club should immediately turn their attention towards signing a new striker and a centre-back as well.
