Tottenham line up move for Eintracht Frankfurt striker Bas Dost
According to the Daily Mail, Tottenham Hotspur are interested in making a swoop for Eintracht Frankfurt and Netherlands striker Bas Dost, as Jose Mourinho looks to beef up his attacking options.
The 31-year-old Dost started out at Dutch outfit FC Emmen and had stints at Heracles Almelo, Heerenveen and Vfl Wolfsburg, before he joined Portuguese giants Sporting Lisbon in 2016. He enjoyed a fine three-year stint with the club, scoring 93 goals in 127 appearances.
Last summer saw Dost join Eintracht Frankfurt in a deal worth £6.5m. He enjoyed a decent 2019/20 campaign, scoring 10 goals in 32 appearances across all competitions. However, the 31-year-old has started the 2020/21 season with a bang, scoring and assisting a goal in the club’s DFB-Pokal win over 1860 Munich.
Tottenham’s need for a new striker is no secret. Manager Jose Mourinho admitted that the club are looking to bring in a new centre-forward, after having suffered because of a lack of backup last season.
Harry Kane is the only natural striker in the ranks currently and going an entire season with just the England captain as the only option would be a recipe for disaster.
Dost may not be a popular choice among the fans, but he fits the mould of a Mourinho striker. In addition, Eintracht are looking for just £5.5m for his services. This, in spite of him having still two years on his contract, making him an affordable option for the club.
