Jose Mourinho responds to speculations of Gareth Bale returning to Tottenham

As reported by the Daily Mail, Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho has addressed the speculations surrounding the potential return of Gareth Bale to the club.

The 31-year-old left Tottenham in 2013 to join Real Madrid in a mega-money £85m deal. After seven years though, the Welshman could be set to return to his old stomping grounds, with negotiations between the two clubs going on to work out a transfer. (h/t Daily Mail)

When quizzed about the potential transfer, Mourinho revealed his admiration for the Welshman and admitted that he had tried to sign him at Real Madrid. However, he was coy about Bale returning to Spurs in the current window. (h/t Daily Mail)

“I tried to sign him for Real Madrid which was not possible to do during my time there. There is no secret on that. Even Gareth knows that. But I’m not going to speak about him anymore because he is a Real Madrid player.”

Negotiations over a deal for Bale are in progress as revealed by his agent Jonathan Barnett. Having him back at the club will be a huge boost for the players and the fans.

At the same time, Bale will also cherish putting behind all the negativity that has surrounded his spell in Madrid of late.

Bale’s potential acquisition will be a huge coup, no doubt. However, that shouldn’t take the club’s focus away from the fact that a new centre-forward is still needed, while we could also use with another quality centre-back in the squad.

There’s still a couple of weeks left for the transfer window to close. Hopefully, when the deadline arrives, we will be in a solid position to challenge for top four.
