Jermaine Jenas urges Dele Alli to leave Tottenham Hotspur

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 (h/t Evening Standard), former Tottenham star Jermaine Jenas has claimed that Dele Alli should leave the club after his recent treatment by Jose Mourinho.

The 24-year-old England international’s future has become a topic of much speculation of late after Alli was dropped from Spurs’ matchday squads against Lokomotiv Plovdiv and Southampton. This came after he was subbed off at half-time in the season opener against Everton.

This situation has led to interest from the likes of Paris Saint-Germain and Inter Milan.

And now, Jenas has urged that the midfielder should consider leaving the club after being treated poorly by the manager. (h/t Evening Standard)

“This doesn’t sit right with me the way he’s been treated even if he’s not performing at the level which he should be which is why if I was Dele I’d be looking to move on.”

It is true that Alli hasn’t been playing as well as he can. The Englishman has endured a difficult eighteen months or so, but on his day, remains a top player who can change outcomes of the game by himself.

Mourinho, for his part, has insisted that Alli will stay at the club and also handed him a start against KF Shkendija. However, the Englishman failed to make the most of the opportunity afforded to him on Thursday night.

The manager has a reputation of being harsh on players – he did something similar with Luke Shaw at Manchester United. But hopefully that is not the case in Alli’s situation and the former MK Dons is able to bounce back from this period strongly and at the earliest.
