Manchester City set to beat Tottenham for Ruben Dias transfer

According to reputed journalist Fabrizio Romano, Manchester City have opened talks with SL Benfica over the potential signing of Tottenham Hotspur target Ruben Dias.

Reports earlier this month claimed that Tottenham were interested in signing Ruben Dias, with Jose Mourinho keen on bolstering his defence. However, Manchester City have now emerged as front-runners to land the Portuguese international. (h/t Football.london)

Romano has claimed that the Mancunian outfit have already made a cash plus player bid, with Nicolas Otamendi being offered as makeweight. The total value of the deal put together comes up to €55m. And even though Benfica have turned down the offer, talks are continuing between the two clubs.

A product of the Benfica youth academy, the 23-year-old Dias broke into the first-team in 2017 and has gone from strength to strength with every passing year.

Dias has already racked up 136 appearances for the Portuguese giants, scoring 11 goals. He has also racked up 19 appearances for the Portuguese national team as well. (h/t Transfermarkt)

Having lost Jan Vertonghen after his contract expired, Tottenham need to bolster the defensive ranks before the transfer window closes. And Dias would have been a fine acquisition for the club.

But, it seems like Manchester City is where the Portuguese international could be headed to as Romano claims Tottenham are yet to make any offer for the 23-year-old.

As things stand, Tottenham seem to be completely focusing on working out a deal for Milan Skriniar. Technical Director Steve Hitchen was spotted in Italy earlier this week in order to push through a move for the Inter Milan ace.

Hopefully, the club is able to sign the Slovakian up before the window closes on October 5.
