Tottenham have £22.7m bid for Roger Ibanez rejected

According to Italian publication Il Messaggero (h/t Football.london), Tottenham Hotspur have had a £22.7m bid rejected for AS Roma’s Brazilian defender Roger Ibanez.

At this point, it is an open secret that Tottenham Hotspur are in the market for defensive reinforcements. The Lilywhites weren’t solid enough at the back last season, while the departure of Jan Vertonghen has also left a vacancy in the squad.

Inter Milan’s Milan Skriniar has been linked the most with Tottenham. However, the club seem to be looking at alternative options, with AS Roma’s Ibanez emerging as one. (h/t Football.london)

The 21-year-old Ibanez started out at Brazilian club PRS FC and spent a year at Fluminense, before signing for Serie A side Atalanta in January last year. Having featured just twice for La Dea, he joined Roma on loan in January earlier this year. Since then, he has featured 12 times for the Giallorossi, including in both their matches this term.

Ibanez has also represented the Brazilian U23 national team on two occasions, having made his debut in October last year.

Even though Ibanez isn’t the most highly-experienced defender, Tottenham reportedly made an offer for the defender. However, the North Londoners were met with a refusal.

The deal, should it have gone through, would’ve been a complicated one, considering that the 21-year-old still has a year left on his loan agreement with Roma. (h/t Football.london)

With not much time left in the transfer window, it is imperative that Spurs step up the pursuit of a new centre-back. Along with a defender, a new striker should also be a priority for Jose Mourinho & co. before the window closes this coming Monday.
