Benfica confirm Carlos Vinicius will join Tottenham on loan
As reported by the Evening Standard, Portuguese giants SL Benfica have confirmed that star striker Carlos Vinicius will be signing for Tottenham Hotspur on a season-long loan deal.
The Portuguese outfit confirmed the agreement by releasing a statement late on Thursday evening. The official statement issued by Benfica read (h/t Evening Standard):
“Sport Lisboa e Benfica – Futebol, SAD informed the Securities Market Commission (CMVM) that it reached an agreement with Tottenham Hotspur for the loan of player Carlos Vinicius until the end of the 2020-21 sports season for an amount of 3 millions of euros.
As mentioned in the statement, Spurs will pay a €3m loan fee to secure his signing. The club also retains the option of making the Brazilian’s transfer permanent for €45m next summer.
The 25-year-old started out at Brazilian giants Santos and had stints with Palmeiras, Caldense and Anapolis before joining Portuguese club Real SC in 2017. A year later, he joined Serie A giants Napoli, but was loaned out to Rio Ave and AS Monaco, before signing for Benfica permanently in 2019.
In his debut season with the Portuguese giants, Vinicius shone bright, racking up a tally of 24 goals and 13 assists from 47 games in all competitions. His addition, without a doubt, will add greater quality to the club’s attacking unit.
As reported by Football.london, Vinicius is expected to complete his medical on Friday. However, the deal will be made official on the transfer deadline day, i.e. Monday.
