Tottenham Hotspur decide to call off Milan Skriniar pursuit
According to Football.london, Tottenham Hotspur have decided to call off their pursuit of Inter Milan and Slovakia defender Milan Skriniar on the transfer deadline day.
The 25-year-old has grown into one of the most reliable defenders in Italy during his time with the Nerazzurri. And Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho was intent on securing Skriniar’s signing before the summer transfer window closed. (h/t Football.london)
The manager had been keen to add another centre-back following the departure of Jan Vertonghen at the end of the season. However, negotiations between the two clubs haven’t progressed as intended and now the club has decided to call off the pursuit of the Slovakian international. (h/t Football.london)
The report does add that Spurs might revisit their interest in Skriniar in the January transfer window.
It has been a very good transfer window for Tottenham Hotspur. The Lilywhites have brought in six quality players in the form of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Joe Hart, Matt Doherty, Sergio Reguilon, Gareth Bale (loan) and Carlos Vinicius (loan).
A defender of Skriniar’s quality would have been the cherry on top of the cake for Mourinho & co. However, the Inter Milan defender will not be arriving at the club in the summer. But the club could move for him in January after reevaluating the situation. (h/t Football.london)
It is claimed that Mourinho is happy with his current defensive options. Eric Dier has impressed since being moved back into the centre-back role. He has Toby Alderweireld and Davinson Sanchez for partners, while the manager can also call upon Japhet Tanganga and Ben Davies to fill in at the heart of the defence. (h/t Football.london)
