Antonio Rudiger snubbed Tottenham transfer because of Chelsea fans

According to The Athletic (h/t Express), Chelsea defender, Antonio Rudiger turned down a chance to join Tottenham Hotspur on the transfer deadline day due to fears that he would anger the Blues’ fanbase.

Rudiger has fallen way down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge and was tipped to leave the club before the transfer window closed. A host of clubs were interested in signing the German international on the deadline day. (h/t Express)

Tottenham were reportedly keen on bringing the 27-year-old centre-back on loan. Fellow London outfit West Ham United too were eyeing a loan swoop, while there was interest from AC Milan and PSG as well. (h/t Express)

It was claimed that Spurs manager Jose Mourinho was intent on securing Rudiger’s signing. The former AS Roma star is believed to have held positive discussions with the manager as well. However, he performed a late U-turn and decided to stay put at Chelsea rather than joining Tottenham. (h/t Express)

This was because Rudiger did not want a falling out with the supporters of Chelsea by joining one of the club’s fiercest rivals in Tottenham. He has now decided to stay at the club and fight for his place in Frank Lampard’s starting XI. (h/t Express)

It was a near-perfect transfer window for Tottenham Hotspur. However, adding a centre-back would have been the icing on top of the cake.

And while Rudiger may have snubbed a move to the club, Spurs are still looking at the possibility of signing Joe Rodon from Swansea. Premier League clubs are allowed to business with EFL clubs for ten more days, meaning Rodon could still arrive at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
