Tottenham sign ex-Chelsea academy ace Marcel Lavinier
According to Football.london, Tottenham Hotspur have signed teenage defender Marcel Lavinier after he was released by Chelsea at the end of last season.
The 19-year-old full-back came through Chelsea’s youth academy and was a regular for the Blues’ Under-18 side. He made 38 appearances for them, scoring two goals and assisting seven more. Lavinier has also had exposure to U23 football, playing 15 times for the Blues’ reserves, contributing with a goal and an assist.
However, the London-born Portuguese defender was let go of by Chelsea when his deal ran out in July earlier this year.
He has been training with Tottenham ever since and now it has been confirmed that the club has signed him up. The young right-back has penned a deal till the end of the 2020/21 campaign. (h/t Football.london)
Lavinier confirmed the signing of the contract taking to his Instagram account. The youngster posted an image of him penning the deal, along with a caption which read:
“Delighted to have signed for @spursofficial in the next step of my career. Very big club with very high ambitions. Grateful for this opportunity and I can’t wait to get started!”

The youngster has shown decent potential in his youth career at Chelsea. He has already started two games for Spurs’ reserves in the Premier League 2. If he is able to build upon it at Tottenham, maybe he can follow in Japhet Tanganga’s footsteps and break into the senior team.
