Tottenham Hotspur willing to pay only £7m for Joe Rodon
According to the Daily Mail’s Mike Keegan on Twitter, Tottenham Hotspur are unwilling to pay more than £7m to sign Welsh defender Joe Rodon from Swansea City.
Rodon is a product of the Swans’ youth academy. After a loan spell at Cheltenham Town, the 22-year-old centre-back broke into the senior team back in 2018. Over the past year, the defender has become a regular at the heart of the Welsh outfit’s backline.
Till date, Rodon has racked up 54 appearances for Swansea City, contributing with a solitary assist.
Tottenham have been in the market for a new centre-back after having lost Jan Vertonghen at the end of the last season. The club also allowed Juan Foyth to join Villarreal on loan, thus warranting a new centre-back addition to bolster the ranks. (h/t BBC)
The Lilywhites had been targeting Milan Skriniar of Inter Milan for a while. However, a move for the Slovakian international didn’t materialise before the transfer window closed. Antonio Rudiger was also a target, as per Fabrizio Romano, but the move fell through as well.
This has led to the Lilywhites eyeing a swoop for Rodon, given that the rules allow transfers between the Premier League and EFL clubs till October 16. (h/t BBC)
Swansea are looking for a transfer fee in the range of £18-20m. However, Tottenham are seemingly reluctant to offer more than £7m.
