Sergio Reguilon injured on international duty with Spain
As reported by the Evening Standard, Tottenham Hotspur’s new signing Sergio Reguilon has picked up an injury while on international duty with Spain.
The 23-year-old Reguilon joined Tottenham Hotspur in the recently-concluded summer transfer window from Real Madrid. The Spanish left-back joined in a deal worth £25m and signed a five-year contract with the club. So far, he has racked up three appearances for Spurs, contributing with a solitary assist before the international break arrived.
Having linked up with the Spanish national team earlier this week, Reguilon started for La Roja against their Iberian rivals Portugal on Wednesday night. It was just his second appearance for the national team and ended just after 45 minutes, as he had to be hooked off due to a knock. (h/t Evening Standard)
Speaking of the left-back, Spain national team manager Luis Enrique confirmed that he had picked up an injury, but allayed any fears that it was a serious one. (h/t Evening Standard)
“Reguilon, we’ll have to wait. It’s not anything serious. It’s a knock which the doctors will have to look at. I hope it doesn’t get too complicated.”
Reguilon’s injury, if serious, would be a cause of concern for Tottenham. The 23-year-old has looked quite impressive early in his stint at the club. He particularly shone in the 6-1 mauling of Manchester United last Sunday. Hopefully, it is nothing too major.
