Tottenham Hotspur will not pay over the odds to land Joe Rodon

According to reliable journalist Alasdair Gold of Football.London, Tottenham Hotspur are ready to end their pursuit of Joe Rodon if they are faced with an auction for the player’s services.

The 22-year-old is a key cog in the Swansea City setup. He has impressed on a consistent basis and is among the best young defenders in the English second division.

Having missed out on both Milan Skriniar and Antonio Rudiger, Spurs have been forced to look to the Championship for defensive reinforcements. We have four more days until the window of opportunity shuts.

According to Gold, Spurs are interested in the player. Rodon too for his part is keen on joining the North Londoners.

The major point of contention continues to be the price involved. Gold had confirmed that the club is not keen on a bidding war and will not pay over the odds for Rodon.

“If others get involved, with Leicester and Sheffield United linked, and push that price up, Spurs won’t pay over the odds. Rodon is talented but I’d be surprised if Spurs paid that much up front for him rather than look to structure a deal.”

One advantage we have over our rivals is the presence of two key Welshmen in our squad. Both Gareth Bale and Ben Davies have played with Rodon at the international level.

The opportunity to connect with them in North London could factor in the player’s preference to move to Spurs.

Valued at around £18million, the Swans star has two years left on his contract. He is keen to play top-flight football and Spurs can grant him just that.

It was earlier reported that Tottenham could offer a player-plus-cash deal to land Rodon. This would have seen Cameron Carter-Vickers return to the club where he previously spent the 2018/19 season on loan.

Whether a deal can be worked out before the window closes on 16 October remains to be seen.
